Since 2010, Torino Airport has progressively upgraded several systems and pieces of equipment, including uninterruptible power supply systems, escalators, motors and pumping systems, introducing technologies with lower energy consumption.

Since 2010, lighting fixtures have been progressively replaced with more energy-efficient LED systems.

Between 2011 and 2017, the passenger terminal’s air-conditioning system was upgraded through the installation of a cooling loop supplied by two plants that modulate their operation according to energy demand.

Since 2012, the automated baggage handling system, consisting of approximately 3.3 km of conveyor belts powered by nearly one thousand electric motors, has been progressively upgraded. A baggage holding system has also been introduced, allowing conveyor belts to operate only in the sections required according to baggage flow, thereby helping to reduce energy consumption.

Since 2018, in collaboration with Enerbrain, a spin-off of Politecnico di Torino, an IoT system has been introduced for the intelligent management of climate control in the General Aviation Terminal. According to project data, the intervention has enabled a reduction of more than 30% in the building’s electricity and natural gas consumption.

Since 2018, adaptive lighting management and control systems have been progressively introduced in buildings and apron areas, with the aim of reducing operating hours and related energy consumption.

Since 2019, heating systems in peripheral buildings have been upgraded with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption.

In 2021, a dedicated car-sharing parking area was created with 10 charging stations for 20 electric vehicles.

Since 2021, Torino Airport has purchased electricity from renewable sources certified through Guarantees of Origin (GOs) for electricity consumption included within the relevant procurement scope.

Since 2022, Torino Airport has managed an airport electricity distribution system. The main airport users and operators located within the airport grounds are equipped with dedicated meters for monitoring electricity consumption.

In 2023, the first electric ambulance used for airport emergency operations entered service.

In 2023, a new parking area was created with 8 charging stations for 16 electric vehicles available to users.

In 2023, the replacement of traditional lighting with lower-consumption LED systems continued, covering aircraft parking stands, airside and landside roads, offices, the General Aviation Terminal, the Multi-storey Car Park, the baggage sorting building, hangars and extensive areas of the passenger terminal.

By the end of 2023, more than 58% of the vehicle fleet included in the renewal programme had been replaced with hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

In 2023, the first large-scale photovoltaic system installed on the terminal roofs became operational. Subsequently expanded in 2025, the system now covers a total area of 8,024 m², with estimated annual production exceeding 1,900 MWh, equivalent to approximately 15% of the airport’s annual electricity demand.

In 2024, 19 electric vehicle charging bays were added, with power ratings ranging from 22 kW to 400 kW. The electricity used for charging is included in the supply from renewable sources certified through Guarantees of Origin.

In 2024, the boilers in the main heating plant were replaced with new high-efficiency condensing boilers, with the aim of reducing natural gas consumption.
